Even the eyebrows? by Sharon Morrison
Book review by Claudine Tisbury
What am I doing reviewing a book on this website when not one dog is involved? Good question. I suppose the best reason I can give you is that a good friend of mine, Sharon Morrison, has written it; it's about breast cancer which affects one in nine women in the UK every year, and she made this life changing discovery because she started running - with me!
What I like about this book is that it's a short, easy-to-read guide on handling some of the more sensitive issues, such as hair loss and your children's reaction to it, loss of bowel control, insomnia and weight gain, not to mention the brain-freezing fear that you're going to die. I was stunned to learn that you can actually have chemotherapy from the comfort of your living room too - and you don't have to have private medical insurance because it's already available on the NHS! And what's cording and why do you have to 'ping it off'? No one would ever want cancer, but if you've been diagnosed with it, or one of your family or friends has, Even the eyebrows? will, gently, open your eyes.
Perhaps the best way to sum up why this book is a great read, is to see what Caryn Franklin, TV presenter and co chair of Fashion Targets Breast Cancer thinks about it:
"It's possible to enjoy a book written about one woman's experience of life threatening disease because I just have. Sharon Morrison writes with humour and clarity about her breast cancer diagnosis and treatment. It tells you everything you have to know as a woman and I mean everything. And it's funny. Two things out of many that make it an essential read."
